What is the process for obtaining a student visa?

Securing a student visa necessitates a methodical approach and attention to detail. To initiate the process, you must obtain a letter of acceptance from the educational institution you plan to attend. This document is fundamental, serving as proof of your admission. Subsequently, gather financial documentation demonstrating your ability to cover tuition, accommodation, and other living expenses. This often includes bank statements, scholarship information, or sponsor affidavits. Health insurance is mandatory in most countries, so arranging comprehensive health coverage and providing evidence of this is crucial. Additionally, a clean criminal record is typically required, necessitating background checks or police certificates from your home country. Following this, you’ll need to obtain the visa application form, which can be obtained from the host country’s embassy or consulate. The challenges of returning from study abroad

Coming back to Lasell after a semester abroad is challenging. As soon as you adjust to new culture, language, sights, and cuisine, it is time to pack your bags and go home. Many students struggle with what is called reverse culture shock, which is when someone returns home and has to reacclimate to their once familiar surroundings. The International Services Office now offers an entire web page dedicated to reverse culture shock and provides a multitude of resources for study abroad returnees thanks to Lasell alum Madeline Kenny, who researched and built the page last year. According to the Director of International Services Sarah Driscoll, about 20-25% of each class at Lasell studies abroad, whether it be through academic programs or Shoulder-to-Shoulder programs. “We realized as students were coming back that there was more that we could do to help students process their experience,” said Driscoll…..Readmore The challenges of returning

Why International Students Are Good For Colleges, Universities And America

I recently moderated a roundtable conversation between international students at Pace University and our local Assembly member, Yuh-Line Niou. It was a chance for the legislator to meet some of our students and to learn about the opportunities and challenges they’ve faced while studying here. Some of the topics were light—a Vietnamese student expressed amazement at the American habit of haphazardly pulling a business card from a pants pocket, compared to the much more studied presentation in Asia, while a Brazilian student noted the negative reaction here to her local custom of greeting professional colleagues with a friendly kiss on the cheek. These students also spoke more seriously about the benefits of an education in the United States. There’s a more open social environment here, they said, more educational opportunities, more interaction with and mentorship from faculty and staff. A student from Eastern Europe praised the kinds of informal interactions

The for-profit school occupies more than 40 buildings throughout the city and has made its family owners very rich. Where does the Academy of Art’s money come from? About $100 million per year arrives as tuition and fees financed by federal student loans. The full scope of the borrowing was revealed May 21, when, for the first time, the Department of Education released information about how much debt students are taking on to earn degrees from various academic programs at American colleges and universities. The data shows one sector in particular with outsize debt: graduate school. Students look to college abroad for cheaper tuition

Students look to college abroad for cheaper tuition For 18-year-old Liza Miezejeski, choosing the right college meant balancing her desire for adventure and her fear of debt. “I didn’t want to stay at home, in my hometown, just to save money,” says the Connecticut native, referring to community college. “I still wanted to get out there and do something.” But as she toured U.S. campuses, none excited her enough to justify pricey tuition. “I don’t want to be in debt for my entire life,” says Miezejeski, who describes her family as “very middle class.” So she set her sights overseas. Her mom, Laura, heard an NPR story about tuition-free schools in Germany, and together, they began researching European institutions. They landed on Anglo-American University in Prague, where Miezejeski is now a first-year student. AAU’s tuition isn’t free, but at about $3,600 per semester, it’s roughly half that of her state’s

Cost of education and quality of education do not have a directly proportional relationship. Some of the best courses and faculty can be found in universities where costs can be extremely low. The reason for lower costs could be the national policy of keeping education subsidized. Or it could be simply because of the cost of living in that country. We believe, students looking to get an outstanding education should not have to choose between quality education or getting trapped in a student loan trap. Over the last 2

The government is keen to attract more international students, and has set a target of having 300,000 foreign students in the country by 2020 (it reached the 100,000 mark in 2003). As a result, universities are focusing on making life easier for foreign students, from the application process all the way through to finding a job after graduation. One thing that will certainly help to attract international students is the introduction of more courses taught partly or entirely in English. Other schemes to attract more overseas students include: Hiring special staff to support international students Allowing students to start courses in September (instead of April, which is when Japan’s academic year usually starts) Recruiting more teaching staff from outside Japan Increasing exchange programs
