With the Fall 2021 semester approaching, most universities in the United States have opted to resume in-person classes, requiring all staff and students to be completely vaccinated. Indian students who got vaccinated by the Covaxin are facing difficulties as several countries, including the US, are not accepting Covaxin as it is not recognized by WHO. International students at prestigious universities such as Columbia University and the University of Michigan have been promised that they will receive free vaccines if they are unable to get vaccinated in their home country. Students who received either Covaxin or Sputnik V, will be required to undergo revaccination, the effects of which are still unknown, generating alarm among students. Important thing to note here is that most of the universities has not made it mandatory to get vaccinated, they have instead insisted the students to get vaccinated by the vaccines which are approved by WHO for emergency use. In India, only Covishield got the WHO approval for emergency use and the supply is still not enough to meet the need of the population.
